Before Dr. Peter Shih studied and trained to become an orthodontist, he received his Bachelor of Science in biomechanical engineering from Washington University in 2002, and went on to earn his Master of Science from Missouri University of Science and Technology in computer engineering in 2006. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from NOVA Southeastern University in 2015 and completed his orthodontic residency at Jacksonville University in 2017.
Dr. Shih gives back to the community by participating in programs like Volunteer in Medicine, which provides free dental services to low-income families. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon.

Outside of Oakleaf Modern Orthodontics, Dr. Shih is an avid swimmer and competed in the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim in 2010—a 4.4-mile open water swim across the Chesapeake Bay in Baltimore. He’s written iPhone/iPad software to help students practice for board exams and scripts to personalize emails, and 3D printed equipment that can be used in the clinic.
